When I entered in 77, if you had kids, you had to be married… As you can tell by the story, my ex hubby refused to watch the kids while, I went to basic… Reason for disolve of marriage later, he was an ass… Leaving me with no choice but to use the very people who had used and abused me an hope with all I had, the kids were safe….. turns out, mom an sis took very good care of my kids… It was me they hated….
The rules to enter now, from what I read of the regulations a year ago… To enter the military as a single parent, it is almost impossible.. If you have brains, read the loop holes in the regulations, they are small, but better than what comes next…
What I read said you have to give up custody of your kid/s….if you are single an want to enter into active duty…
When I served, I was single off an on during my time… But I had to be married to join the military….and I got married just for that reason, so I could provide for my kids….
It was beyond difficult when I was single and on 24 hour emergency call for the clinic… Many times I loaded up my kids in the middle of the night, to meet a patient at the clinic… Many times….
If you chose to go into the service, go to the branch of service web site and find out the limitations, when you are a single parent….
I Remember… Margie….
